Supervision Contracts Guide
Create, manage, and maintain BACB-compliant supervision contracts
What Are Supervision Contracts?
A supervision contract is a formal agreement between a supervisor and supervisee that outlines the terms, expectations, and responsibilities of the supervision relationship. The BACB requires that all supervision relationships be documented with a written contract before supervision begins.
Important
Supervision hours logged before a contract is signed may not count toward certification. Always ensure your contract is in place before starting supervision.
BACB Requirements
The BACB requires supervision contracts to include specific elements:
- Responsibilities:Clear definition of both parties' responsibilities
- Objectives: Supervision goals and expected outcomes
- Schedule: Frequency and format of supervision meetings
- Feedback methods: How performance feedback will be delivered
- Evaluation criteria: How competency will be assessed
- Emergency procedures: Protocols for urgent situations
- Termination conditions: Under what circumstances supervision may end
- Signatures: Both parties must sign and date the contract

Supervision Studio provides BACB-compliant contract templates that you can customize:
- Navigate to Supervision → Contracts

Digital Signatures
Supervision Studio uses legally-binding digital signatures for contract execution:
How It Works
Both parties receive an email with a link to review and sign the contract. Signatures include timestamp, IP address, and identity verification.
Signature Order
Typically the supervisor creates and signs first, then the supervisee receives and countersigns. Both parties receive a copy upon completion.
BACB Compliant
Supervision Studio digital signatures meet BACB requirements for electronic documentation. See our digital signatures article for details.
Contract Management
Manage all your contracts from the Contracts dashboard:
- Active: Contracts currently in effect
- Pending: Contracts awaiting signatures
- Expired: Contracts that have reached their end date
- Terminated: Contracts ended before their expiration
Renewals & Amendments
Contracts may need to be updated or renewed:
Renewal Reminders
Supervision Studio automatically notifies you 30 days before contract expiration. You can renew directly from the reminder notification.
Amendments
If terms change (schedule, location, etc.), create a contract amendment:
- Open the active contract
- Click "Create Amendment"
- Document the changes
- Both parties sign the amendment
Troubleshooting
Signature request not received?
Check spam/junk folders. Ensure the email address is correct. You can resend the signature request from the contract details page.
Need to change contract after signing?
Signed contracts cannot be edited. Create a formal amendment documenting the changes, which both parties must sign.
Contract expired but supervision ongoing?
Create a renewal immediately. Hours logged after contract expiration may not count toward certification requirements.
